Leaking Washing Machine? You may have a claim.

We received a call from a potential client, earlier this week, regarding the leaking washing machine at her property. This was not an old washing machine, but a relatively new washing machine, fitted by the contractor recommended by the company she purchased it from.

This type of insurance claim, escape of water, is very common. Generally we find the feed pipes have not been fitted correctly, particularly in respect of the tension required. Too lose and the pipe will leak, too tight and the pipe will leak.

When done up too tightly the feed pipes will not leak straight away, therefore it would appear when the work is being carried out all is well. However, when the washing machine is fitted, normally under a work surface, the pipe starts to leak and the property owner is none the wiser. It is not until you start to see signs of a potential problem that the matter comes to light.

Signs of a leaky washing machine

There are a few common signs to look out for and may be the result of a leak from the washing machine:

Water pools developing on vinyl flooring.
Water marks and/or salt marks on adjacent walls or indeed rooms.
Laminate or real wood flooring buckling or warping.

If you recognise any of these signs and have a suspicion you have a leaking washing machine, or indeed dishwasher or other white goods, please feel free to call us to find out what you might be entitled to under your policy. We are here to help.
